KUALA LUMPUR: August 17, 2026 – Police have seized contraband cigarettes worth an estimated RM1.49 million ($335,000) in three separate raids across Kuala Lumpur, Selangor and Petaling Jaya. Two local men, aged 20 and 22, were arrested on suspicion of acting as delivery runners for the illegal supply.
The first operation, launched in Sentosa, Kuala Lumpur at 3pm, led to the detention of the younger suspect. A search of his vehicle uncovered multiple cartons of untaxed cigarettes of various brands.
Intelligence gathered from that arrest directed officers to a premises in Semenyih, Selangor, which was being used as a temporary storage hub before the cigarettes were distributed to markets around the capital.
At this second location, authorities discovered a much larger stock, including brands such as John JDB, John JDB Superslims, Zon King, Canyon Premium, Canyon Blast, La Bold, Gajah Baru International, Clas Mild and LA Ice.
A third raid, carried out in Damansara Damai, Petaling Jaya at 3.30pm, resulted in the arrest of the second suspect, aged 22. Police also impounded two luxury vehicles – a Toyota Vellfire and a Toyota Alphard – believed to have been used for transporting the goods.
The value of the seizures from each location was RM360,400, RM911,680 and RM219,413 respectively, bringing the total to RM1,492,223. Mobile phones and RM26,415 in cash were also confiscated.
Preliminary investigations suggest both men had been involved in cigarette delivery activities for about four to six months. They are being held for questioning under Section 135(1)(d) of the Customs Act 1967.
Commander of the WCB/PSK unit, SAC Mohd Zaki bin Ashar, said authorities would not compromise with anyone engaged in smuggling, illegal wildlife trade or cross‑border crimes.
Between 1 January and 16 August 2026, the Bukit Aman WCB/PSK unit conducted 237 raids nationwide, detaining 411 individuals for various offences. The total value of confiscated goods during that period is estimated at RM312,523,899.64.
