TAWAU: July 28, 2026 – Two separate raids conducted by the Tawau District Narcotics Criminal Investigation Department under Operation Tapis have led to the arrest of a local unemployed man and a foreign woman for suspected possession of methamphetamine at two different locations in the district yesterday.

Acting Tawau District Police Chief Superintendent Wilynton Enchana Watt said the first raid was carried out at about 2.20pm in Kampung Tanjung Batu Keramat, Tawau, as part of Operation Tapis, resulting in the arrest of a 32-year-old local unemployed man who was acting suspiciously.

“During the inspection, the suspect voluntarily handed over a transparent plastic packet containing clear crystals believed to be methamphetamine weighing 0.35 grammes to police,” he said in a statement today.

He said the second raid was carried out at about 2.45pm in the corridor area of Sabindo Flat, Tawau, leading to the arrest of a foreign woman in her 30s.

He added that a further inspection found a transparent plastic packet containing suspected methamphetamine weighing 0.20 grammes, which was also handed over by the suspect to the raiding team.

“Initial urine screening tests found both suspects positive for amphetamine and methamphetamine,” he said.

According to him, the total weight of seizures for both cases amounted to 0.55 grammes of methamphetamine, and both suspects are now being investigated under Section 12(2) of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952.

He stressed that police continue to intensify operations to combat drug abuse and trafficking in the district, and urged the public to channel any information related to such activities to assist in efforts to curb drug abuse.
