KOTA KINABALU: Aug 11, 2026 – The Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission (MCMC) will implement several digital infrastructure initiatives in Sabah to expand internet coverage.
Communications Minister Datuk Seri Fahmi Fadzil said that Phase 2 of the JENDELA project involves more than 300 locations in Sabah, with satellite internet being deployed for interior areas.
“For remote areas with population, we are adopting a different strategy this time,” he said after paying a courtesy call on Sabah Governor Tun Musa Aman at Istana Seri Kinabalu today.
He added that a trial run of the Direct-to-Device (D2D) programme is also being conducted to enable satellite internet to be transmitted directly to users’ mobile phones.
In addition, the MADANI Submarine Cable Project (SALAM) will connect Sedili, Kuching, Miri, Tanjung Aru, Sandakan and Tawau to provide faster and more affordable internet coverage.
Meanwhile, MCMC has detected more than 2,000 fake accounts nationwide over the past five to six weeks, which were involved in spreading fake news, 3R content, scams and online gambling.
Also present was Communications Ministry Secretary-General Datuk Abdul Halim Hamzah.
