KOTA KINABALU: Sept 14, 2026 — The location and conditions for organising Sabah Moto Day (SMD) need to be reviewed following public grouses over congestion, the comfort of road users and the impact on the public.

Karambunai assemblyman Datuk Dr Aliakbar said the review was important to ensure the programme is carried out in a more orderly manner without affecting the interests of the community.

“Among the matters that can be considered is the provision of a more suitable and controlled dedicated location, so that the activity can be held vibrantly without overly affecting traffic flow and the movement of other road users,” he said.

He also proposed that organising conditions be streamlined, including safety aspects for participants and the public, traffic control, parking, emergency lanes and coordination with authorities and relevant agencies.

“I have taken note of the complaints and grievances of the public, particularly regarding the comfort of road users, congestion and the impact on the public,” he said.

According to him, SMD, now in its ninth edition, should be a space to assess the organising approach and identify areas for improvement.

“I see that it is time for us to pause, look back and evaluate what can be improved,” he said.

Therefore, he believed interest in motoring could be developed into more organised activities, including controlled motorsports, road safety education, automotive skills, entrepreneurship and youth talent development.
