KOTA KINABALU: Sept 14, 2026 – Singer Marsha Milan describes contestants’ development as important in Borneo Rising, especially as they continue to build experience throughout the eight-week competition.
According to Marsha, some contestants are still inexperienced because they have yet to have a broad platform. As such, the competition serves as a space for them to gain experience, learn and improve their performances from week to week.
She said the difference in experience between new contestants and those who are already artistes is clear, but being an artiste does not guarantee that one can maintain the dynamism of their performances throughout the competition.
“It is about progress. They need to have more experience so they can improve themselves as entertainers,” she said.
Marsha also acknowledged that contestants’ mistakes are something industry players have gone through, which means she has to be fairer when giving marks because the competition requires professional judging.
Commenting on the contestants’ chances of gaining exposure in Peninsular Malaysia, Marsha said they have actually received attention through social media, especially after the first week as an introduction to viewers.
On the Anugerah Industri Muzik (AIM), Marsha is excited because this edition is being held at a different venue. Marsha is also happy with the introduction of a special Borneo category.
Marsha said she received four song nominations in three categories at this year’s AIM, and hopes to bring home at least one trophy.
Commenting on the Best Female Vocal category, Marsha acknowledged the fierce competition as each nominee has her own strengths. She said her main focus is more on the song nominations, while victory is left to fate.
