KUALA LUMPUR: Oct 15, 2026 – KUPIKUPI FM has made history as the first private community radio station from Borneo to expand its terrestrial FM broadcast into Peninsular Malaysia via the 106.0 FM frequency.
The expansion allows the radio station to be heard in several areas in Negeri Sembilan, Selangor and the Federal Territory of Putrajaya, thus opening up greater space to highlight Borneo music, culture and community stories to listeners across the country.
OOGA X Sdn Bhd chief executive officer Lester Calvin Miol said the move also aims to connect Sabahans and Sarawakians living in Peninsular Malaysia with their hometowns.
“This is a historic moment for us. We want our friends from Sabah and Sarawak who are based in Peninsular Malaysia to have a radio channel they can listen to whenever they miss home.
“At the same time, we want to give our brothers and sisters in West Malaysia the opportunity to get to know Borneo better,” he said.
He said the expansion is not aimed at dominating the broadcasting industry, but rather at contributing to the diversity of the country’s media landscape through sharing culture, music and stories from Borneo.

KUPIKUPI FM SABAH was launched in January 2016 and broadcasts via the 96.3 FM frequency, covering several areas including Kota Kinabalu, Penampang, Papar, Beaufort, Kuala Penyu, Tuaran and Kota Belud.
Apart from broadcasting, the station has also carried out more than 30 corporate social responsibility (CSR) initiatives in Sabah, mostly focused on efforts to help rural communities obtain water supply.
Its operations have also expanded through the launch of KUPIKUPI FM SARAWAK on June 9, 2023, which broadcasts in Kuching via the 92.5 FM frequency.
The group has also expanded its digital media business through the news portal INFO X, as well as being involved in organising concerts, event management and marketing activities.
Lester said OOGA X Sdn Bhd aims to be a link for businesses wanting to strengthen their presence in Sabah and Sarawak through expertise in broadcasting, promotion including community engagement.
The expansion into Peninsular Malaysia is expected to widen exposure to Borneo’s creative talent and cultural diversity, thus strengthening ties between East Malaysia and West Malaysia.
