TAWAU: Oct 30, 2026 — Drug abuse activities in village areas here continue to be detected after three individuals were arrested for suspected possession of syabu in two separate raids under Op Tapis at Kampung Kurnia Jaya, Batu 4, yesterday.
The operation was carried out by the Tawau District Narcotics Criminal Investigation Division (BSJND) following surveillance on individuals behaving suspiciously in the area.
In the first raid, police arrested a local man and woman inside a white Perodua Alza car by the roadside.
A search of both suspects led to the discovery of two transparent plastic packets containing clear crystalline substance suspected to be syabu, with a total weight of about 0.30 grammes.
In the second raid in the same area, police arrested a foreign man who was seen loitering suspiciously.
A further search found one transparent plastic packet containing substance suspected to be syabu weighing about 0.26 grammes on the suspect.
Initial urine screening tests found all three suspects positive for Amphetamine and Methamphetamine.
Checks also found that none of them had prior criminal records.
All arrests are being investigated under Section 12(2) and Section 15(1)(a) of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952.
Tawau District Police Chief ACP Rosdi Mat Jusoh said his team would continue enforcement action to eradicate drug abuse and trafficking activities in the district.
He also stressed that intelligence gathering and operations are carried out continuously to identify and track down other individuals believed to be involved in the drug supply chain.
The public is advised to stay away from drugs and to channel information to the authorities if they are aware of any drug abuse or trafficking activities in their respective areas.
