TAWAU: July 28, 2026 – Two local men have been arrested by police on suspicion of involvement in an extortion case against a man, during an operation conducted on the pavement of a shopping building here yesterday.
Acting Tawau District Police Chief Superintendent Wilynton Enchana Watt said the arrests were carried out by a team of officers and personnel from the Criminal Investigation Department of the Tawau District Police Headquarters, following an investigation into a police report lodged by the victim.
According to him, preliminary investigations revealed that the two suspects are believed to have demanded money from the victim by threatening to expose certain incidents to other parties if payment was not made.
“As a result of the arrests, police also seized two mobile phones belonging to the suspects which are believed to be linked to the investigation,” he said.
Both suspects have been taken to the Tawau District Police Headquarters to assist with further investigations.
The case is being investigated under Section 385 of the Penal Code for extortion by causing fear of injury.
