TELUPID: 12 June 2026 – Village Development and Security Committees (JKKK) must serve as the primary link between the people, their elected representatives and government agencies to ensure that all community issues, needs and aspirations are effectively communicated and addressed, according to a state assemblyman.

The Telupid assemblyman, Datuk Dr Jonnybone J. Kurum, said the role of the JKKK is not limited to village administration but encompasses a broader responsibility for safeguarding the welfare, security and development of local communities.

He made the remarks while speaking at a ceremony to present appointment letters to the Telupid District JKKK for the 2026–2030 term.

“The JKKK is the front line closest to the people. They need to know the situation in the village, identify the needs of residents and be the main channel for conveying information to the government and relevant agencies,” he said.

Jonnybone stressed that every JKKK chairman must be sensitive to current developments and act as a leader who truly understands the circumstances of the residents.

“Do not wait until problems become serious. If there are issues relating to infrastructure, welfare, security or basic amenities, inform the responsible parties immediately so that action can be taken without delay,” he said.

He also reminded JKKK chairmen to practise leadership that is close to the people, by constantly going into the field to hear directly the views and grievances of the community.

He added that various development challenges still require attention, especially basic amenities such as roads, bridges, water and electricity supplies, which are the primary needs of rural communities.

“Effective development requires cooperation from all parties. When the JKKK, elected representatives, government agencies and the community move in harmony, all challenges can be better addressed for the well-being of the people and the progress of the village,” he said.
