TAWAU, Oct 10, 2026 – A total of 14 male teenagers aged between 12 and 14 were detained by police to assist investigations into a fight at Taman Ambar, Jalan Kuhara.
Tawau District Police Chief ACP Rosdi Mat Jusoh said all suspects were detained by the Criminal Investigation Division of the Tawau District Police Headquarters on Oct 7 following investigations and tracking efforts.
He said initial investigations found the incident began with a misunderstanding between two students before the fight involved several other students.
A video recording of the incident that went viral helped police identify those involved and their respective roles.
Police also seized an iPhone 13 and a black bicycle believed to be linked to the case.
One of those detained was also identified as a foreigner who failed to produce valid travel documents.
The case is being investigated under Section 148 of the Penal Code for rioting with weapons or dangerous objects and Section 6(1)(c) of the Immigration Act 1959/63.
Rosdi said further investigations are ongoing to determine the involvement and role of each individual detained.
Among the actions taken are obtaining the original video recording, recording statements from witnesses and detained individuals, obtaining the victim’s medical report, and cooperating with the school and the Tawau District Education Office.

The Tawau District Police also warned that rioting, attacking others or using objects as weapons are serious offences and will not be compromised.
Parents and guardians are advised to monitor their children’s social interactions and behaviour, while students are reminded not to get involved in fights or provocation that could lead to criminal acts.
