PENAMPANG: July 19, 2026 – Two local men in their 30s were arrested early this morning for driving under the influence of alcohol during an anti-drink-driving operation conducted by the Traffic Investigation and Enforcement Division of the Penampang District Police Headquarters along Jalan Bundusan.
The operation, led by Penampang Traffic Investigation and Enforcement Division Chief Inspector Rozami Hj Ahmad, also saw 62 individuals and 58 vehicles inspected. During the operation, police issued six summonses for various traffic offences.

Penampang District Police Chief Superintendent Sammy Newton said both suspects were detained under Section 45A(1) of the Road Transport Act 1987 for driving with a blood alcohol content exceeding the prescribed limit.
He said if convicted, they face up to two years in prison, a fine of not less than RM10,000 and not exceeding RM30,000, as well as disqualification from holding a driving licence for two years.
Meanwhile, police stressed that similar operations would be conducted from time to time to detect drink-drivers and to improve compliance with road traffic laws for the safety of all road users.
