KOTA KINABALU: Aug 25, 2026— Sabah Governor Tun Musa Aman has called on the people to steer technological progress with noble values and morals to prevent the misuse of technology that could undermine social harmony, in his address at the Sabah State-level Maulidur Rasul (Prophet Muhammad’s Birthday) celebration today.
He said technological advancement and the openness of information undoubtedly open up many opportunities, but at the same time bring new challenges as the way people communicate, access information and form opinions changes rapidly.
“This technology should serve as a tool to disseminate knowledge, strengthen relationships and bring benefit to society, not as a platform to spread slander, hatred, insults or matters that could damage harmony,” he said.
According to him, love for Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) should not be limited to expressions and celebrations alone, but must be translated through the embodiment of His teachings, character and example in daily life.
He said the Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) is the best role model, serving as a guide not only in matters of worship but also in family life, community relations, leadership, administration and human interactions.
He added that the strength of a society does not depend solely on physical and material progress, but is also measured by the height of its moral character, trustworthiness, justice, compassion and sense of responsibility towards one another.
In ensuring that harmony continues to be preserved, Tun Musa also called on the people of Sabah to strengthen unity by prioritising mutual respect, understanding and cooperation in facing the state’s diversity of ethnic groups, religions and cultures.
He said differences of opinion should be managed with wisdom, while disputes should not be allowed to turn into hostility.
He also urged Muslims in Sabah, in particular, to increase their recitation of salawat (blessings upon the Prophet), study the Prophet Muhammad’s (PBUH) sirah (biography) and strive to emulate His noble character in their daily lives.
