KOTA KINABALU: August 6, 2026 – The state-level Tunas Niaga (PROTUNE) programme in Sabah has recorded total sales of RM1,408,632.26 and a net profit of RM380,098.41 over nine months of implementation.
Deputy Chief Minister III, Datuk Ewon Benedick, said the achievement of the 45 participating schools reflected the dedication, creativity and commitment of both students and their supervising teachers.
“True success is not measured solely by sales or profits, but by the experience, confidence and skills that have been built throughout the programme,” he said at the 2025 Sabah State PROTUNE Convention Award Ceremony on Wednesday.
Of the 45 schools, 15 advanced to the final round. Ewon agreed to allocate an additional RM2,000 to each finalist school from the MINDET Minister’s Special Entrepreneurship Development Fund, while a further RM10,000 was channelled to award winners.
SMK Sepagaya Lahad Datu was named the Best PROTUNE Company, taking home RM2,500 in cash, a trophy and a certificate.
Statistics from the PROTUNE alumni show that 68% have pursued further studies, 21% are in employment, 9% are seeking work, and 2% have ventured into entrepreneurship.
The programme, organised by SEDCovest in collaboration with the Sabah State Education Department, receives state government support through MINDET.
Also present at the event were MINDET Deputy Permanent Secretary Moira David, Sedcovest Holdings Chairman Datuk Redonah Bahanda, and Sedco Group Deputy Group General Manager Haji Azrul Haji Ahmad.
