PUTRAJAYA: July 28, 2026 – The Malaysian Embassy in Seoul is helping to coordinate the repatriation of the remains of a Malaysian citizen who died following an incident in the Republic of Korea on 26 July, the Foreign Ministry has said.
In a statement today, the ministry said the case is currently being investigated by authorities in the Republic of Korea.
As such, it said it would not disclose further details regarding the victim’s identity or the circumstances of the incident, out of respect for the ongoing investigation and the family’s privacy.
According to the statement, the embassy has been in close contact with the victim’s next of kin and local authorities to provide consular assistance, including managing documentation, funeral arrangements and the repatriation of the remains to Malaysia.
The ministry also confirmed that several other Malaysian citizens are involved in the ongoing investigation.
The embassy will continue to obtain verified information from the Republic of Korea’s authorities and provide appropriate consular assistance in accordance with the country’s laws and regulations, as well as relevant international obligations.
The ministry extended its condolences to the victim’s family and reaffirmed its commitment to protecting the welfare and well-being of Malaysians abroad.
Malaysians residing or travelling overseas were also reminded to always respect and comply with the laws and regulations of the countries they visit.
