SANDAKAN: 9 August 2026 – The security level in the Eastern Sabah Security Zone (ESS Zone) has boosted confidence among tourists, investors, and coastal communities to go about their daily lives and economic activities in a peaceful environment.

This assessment was made through the 2026 Joint Security Survey Programme with Foreign Representatives to the ESS Zone. The international delegation visited the waters off Sabah’s east coast to assess the actual ground situation for themselves.

ESSCOM Commander, DCP Datuk Victor Sanjos, said this peace is the result of the Malaysian Government’s continuous commitment through the Ministry of Home Affairs and the security agencies on duty.

“The current security level allows for safe maritime movement, tourist islands to continue receiving visitors, and coastal communities to carry out their daily activities without disruption,” he said.

The stability also supports turtle conservation efforts on Selingan Island, ecotourism, and the blue economy, which directly benefit local communities.

He expressed hope that the delegation would support a reassessment of travel advisories for the ESS Zone, based on current facts rather than past perceptions, for the mutual prosperity of all parties.
