TAWAU: Aug 17, 2026 — Police have arrested five men, aged between 19 and 37, to assist in investigations into a rioting incident that took place at an open field along Jalan Imam Galundang, Tanjung Batu Keramat, Tawau, on Friday.
Tawau District Police Chief ACP Rosdi Mat Jusoh said the incident occurred after a teenage boy, about 17 years old, claimed he was assaulted by a group of unknown men while at the Tanjung Batu Keramat field.
According to him, the victim sustained injuries to his eyebrow, while his cousin was also injured.
Following the police report, a team of officers and personnel from the Tawau District Police Headquarters (IPD) Criminal Investigation Division (BSJD) conducted investigations before detaining all five suspects at the BSJD Detectives Office at the Tawau IPD.
Checks revealed that none of the suspects had any prior criminal records, while no seizure of property was recorded during the arrests.
The case is being investigated under Section 148 of the Penal Code.
