PENAMPANG: June 22, 2026 – A 43-year-old local woman has been arrested after police seized 30 bottles of ketum water and ketum leaves during a raid in Kampung Ulu Seberang, Putatan, on Thursday.
Penampang District Police Chief Superintendent Sammy bin Newton said the raid, carried out around 1:00 pm, was conducted by the Penampang District Police Headquarters Narcotics Criminal Investigation Division based on intelligence information.
A search uncovered 30 plastic bottles containing ketum water liquid and one white plastic sack containing ketum leaves. The seized items were valued at an estimated RM975, along with equipment used to process ketum water.
The case is being investigated under Section 30(3) of the Poisons Act 1952, which carries a fine of up to RM10,000 or four years’ imprisonment, or both, upon conviction.
Police have emphasised they will not compromise in combating illegal activities and will intensify operations. Members of the public are urged to channel information relating to drug abuse to the authorities.
