KOTA KINABALU,: Sept 29, 2026 – The United Sabah Islamic Association (USIA), together with several state Islamic non-governmental organisations (NGOs), has urged the authorities to review the approval of a concert permit for international artiste Israel Houghton.
The touring concert, titled “Israel & New Breed – Till The Whole World Knows Tour 2026”, is scheduled to be held at Hakka Hall on Oct 22, 2026, at 8pm.
In a joint media statement on Monday, the group said the objection was made on humanitarian principles and in solidarity with the Palestinian people, and not on religious or racial grounds.
The NGO coalition alleged that the artiste had openly expressed support for and posted content favouring Israel on his personal social media.
“Such an open stance touches the sensitivities of the community, especially when the world is witnessing the ongoing suffering of the Palestinian people,” the statement said.
USIA and the NGOs stressed that they continue to respect freedom of religion and reject all forms of hatred.
However, they are of the view that harmony in Sabah society must be prioritised.
In view of this, they will lodge a police report to request further investigation.
The coalition also urged Sabahans to remain calm and to channel any objections peacefully through lawful channels.
