Umno launches donation fund to help Najib pay RM50m fine

Zahid Hamidi Mengumumkan Solidariti Najib

KUALA LUMPUR: September 19, 2026 – Umno has launched a donation fund initiative to help Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak settle the RM50 million fine imposed on the former prime minister.

Umno president Datuk Seri Ahmad Zahid Hamidi said the fund was set up as a party effort to help ease Najib’s burden in meeting the condition to pay the fine.

He said contributions were open on a voluntary basis to the entire Umno leadership, members and supporters, including those who wished to show support for Najib.

In a statement yesterday, Zahid stressed that the initiative would be carried out transparently and in an orderly manner, while ensuring that the collection and its management comply with all rules and laws in force.

In the same statement, Zahid also urged Umno members to welcome the development regarding Najib with gratitude, while ensuring that every expression is conveyed courteously and respects the prescribed process.

He said Umno had from the outset taken the position of bringing applications related to Najib through proper channels, with respect for the institution of the monarchy, the supremacy of the Constitution and the rule of law as the party’s guiding principles.

Zahid also expressed appreciation to Yang di-Pertuan Agong Sultan Ibrahim following the decision allowing Najib to serve the remainder of his sentence under house arrest.

He said the development brought relief to Najib, his family and the Umno community, who had been hoping for such an outcome.

Therefore, Umno called on those who wish to help to take part voluntarily in the collection through a mechanism to be implemented by the party.
