TELUPID: October 3, 2026 – The Sabah Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises (MSME) Entrepreneurs Carnival 2026 for the Telupid Zone is a strategic platform to expand the market for local products, boost sales and strengthen the competitiveness of rural entrepreneurs.S

abah Assistant Minister of Industrial Development, Entrepreneurship and Transport Datuk Dr Jonnybone J. Kurum said the three-day carnival demonstrated the government’s commitment to ensuring rural communities also enjoyed entrepreneurship development opportunities.

“The choice of Telupid as the venue for this carnival is significant because it shows the government’s entrepreneurship development agenda is also being brought to rural areas,” he said when officiating the Sabah MSME Entrepreneurs Carnival 2026 Telupid Zone at the Tamu site in Telupid Town today.

The carnival, the first to be held in the district, gathered 30 MSME entrepreneur booths under the Industrial Development and Research Department (DIDR) and 60 stalls run by hawkers and small traders under the Telupid District Council.

Also taking part were the MADANI Rahmah Sales organised by the Ministry of Domestic Trade and Cost of Living (KPDN) and the Cooperative MADANI Sales by the Malaysia Co-operative Societies Commission (SKM).

Jonnybone said the state government had also provided various initiatives to help entrepreneurs increase production capacity and product quality, including the SME-UP Assistance Programme, which has an allocation of RM15 million.

“The opportunities provided must be followed by action. Entrepreneurs should make the best use of government assistance, understand the market and continue improving their products so that they can compete,” he said.

He said that as of 2025, a total of 5,879 entrepreneurs had received machinery and equipment assistance through the programme.

In a related development, the participation of 115 Sabah MSME entrepreneurs in 18 expos in 2025 generated potential sales of RM95.9 million, an increase of 37.12 per cent compared with RM60.4 million the previous year.

Jonnybone hoped the carnival would be the starting point for more business opportunities and success for Telupid entrepreneurs, while contributing to local economic growth and improving the people’s standard of living.
