KUALA LUMPUR: Sept 17, 2026 — The National Registration Department (JPN) has introduced a new-generation MyKad featuring 53 physical security features to strengthen efforts to prevent forgery.

In an introductory video shared by JPN, the security features cover elements on the card surface and in its structure.

These include a Dynamic Security Hologram that displays three-dimensional images that change according to viewing angle and lighting.

The new MyKad is also equipped with an ultraviolet (UV) security feature that highlights certain elements when exposed to ultraviolet light, as well as guilloche patterns, microtext and a transparent window.

In terms of construction, the card uses polycarbonate layers that are more resistant to temperature and chemicals.

The back of the MyKad has a QR code to support verification and enforcement requirements.

The new-generation MyKad is also equipped with an NFC chip that enables contact and contactless reading, as well as an advanced processing chip and a dual-function interface chip.

A total of 40 JPN branches equipped with printing centres nationwide will begin issuing the new-generation MyKad from Sept 17, 2026.

According to JPN, MyKad issuance at these branches has a same-day completion period.
