KOTA KINABALU: August 21, 2026 — Sabah Electricity has issued a warning to consumers to be vigilant against individuals impersonating its personnel, believed to be seeking to obtain consumers’ personal information at their homes.
According to Sabah Electricity, the company has never directed its staff to visit consumers’ residences to collect personal information or details without prior official notice.
The utility company clarified that inspections and maintenance by authorised personnel only involve electricity meters and related components located outside the premises.
Staff are also not instructed to enter homes or consumer premises to inspect internal electrical wiring without prior official notice and verification.
Consumers are advised to verify the identity of personnel before allowing any transactions to proceed, including checking for uniforms bearing the Sabah Electricity logo and valid employee identification cards.
Sabah Electricity also reminded that its personnel are not permitted to make cash collections or collect deposits directly at consumers’ homes.
Any matters related to accounts and electricity services should be conducted through the company’s official channels, including hotline 15444, 088-515000, or the mySE+ application.
