PUTRAJAYA: Sept 24, 2026 – The Malaysian Immigration Department (JIM) crippled a transport service for foreigners suspected to be illegal immigrants (PATI) in a special operation around Kampung Dato’ Abu Bakar Baginda, Kajang and Putrajaya on Sept 21.
The operation, held between 3pm and 6pm, involved 35 officers from the Enforcement Division and the Special Tactical Team (PASTAK) of the Putrajaya Immigration Headquarters.
During the operation, JIM intercepted and detained seven vans carrying foreign passengers.
Checks found six vans were driven by foreigners – five Bangladeshi men and one Indonesian man – who did not possess valid travel documents or passports.
They also did not hold valid Competent Driving Licences (CDL), while some used probationary driving licences.
Preliminary investigations found some of the foreign drivers claimed to receive payments of between RM1,600 and RM1,800 a month from van owners suspected to be Malaysian citizens.
A Malaysian man who was the driver and owner of one van was also detained.
All seven individuals were detained for investigation under Section 55E of the Immigration Act 1959/63.
Checks on passengers led to the detention of 53 foreigners – 44 Indonesians, eight Bangladeshis and one Myanmar national – for not possessing valid travel documents or passports. Of the total, the Indonesians comprised 12 men and 32 women.
Preliminary investigations found the foreigners used the van service to travel to and from work around Kampung Dato’ Abu Bakar Baginda, Kajang and Putrajaya for a fee of about RM100 a month.
JIM also seized seven vans suspected of being used to commit offences under the Immigration Act 1959/63.
All detained foreigners, aged between 18 and 59, were placed at the Putrajaya Immigration Depot for further investigation.
The case is being investigated under the Immigration Act 1959/63, the Passport Act 1966 and the Immigration Regulations 1963.
