NEW YORK: 2 July 2026 – The promotional teaser for the film Spider-Man: Brand New Day has gone viral after featuring football star Lionel Messi in a 20-second cameo.
The Argentine player delivers just seven brief words throughout the scene: “Sí”, “Spider-Man”, “Sí”, “Sí”, “¿Cómo?” and ends with an exclamation of “Woooooooow!”.
The video shows Peter Parker (Tom Holland) looking surprised to see Messi at a café in New York. Messi then pulls up the Spidey Tracker app and asks for Spider-Man’s location.
Shortly after, Spider-Man appears and swings Messi across New York’s skyscrapers.
There have been claims that Messi received a fee of $15 million (RM63 million) for the appearance. However, the amount has yet to be officially confirmed by Marvel, Sony Pictures or Messi’s representatives.
Spider-Man: Brand New Day is scheduled for release on 31 July.
Many netizens have joked that each of Messi’s words would be worth millions of ringgit if the reported fee turns out to be true.
