KENINGAU: 13 July 2026 – Dr Velerie Wheelervon Primus said that the international recognition she has received carries a great responsibility to give back to her home community.

The Special Education teacher was recently named the winner of the Cambridge Dedicated Teacher Awards 2026 for the Southeast Asia and Pacific region, and became a finalist among the top 50 teachers in the world for 2026.

Now, she is channelling that global recognition through NeuroHope 2026 – a community initiative focused on neurodiversity awareness, inclusive education, and support for Students with Special Educational Needs (SEN) and their families.

This programme is organised by the PPKI SK Bingkor (Special Education Integration Programme) in collaboration with the Bingkor Welfare Association.

It will take place on Saturday, 18 July 2026, from 7.00 a.m. to 5.00 p.m. at the Aspirasi Hall of SK Bingkor, Keningau. Participation is free and open to the public.

Three professionals will lead the sessions: Dr Velerie herself, along with a Psychiatrist and an Occupational Therapist. They will share their expertise on early intervention, mental health, and family support strategies.

Various community activities are also available, including Free Eye Check-ups, a Blood Donation Campaign, Rahmah Sales, and agency exhibitions.

Cultural performances will be presented by the Dusun Gana Association and the Nabai Cultural Association, with a special performance by Sabah’s local artist, Rosario Bianis.

This initiative supports the Malaysia Education Plan (RPM) 2026–2035 and aligns with several United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), including quality education (SDG 4), good health and well-being (SDG 3), reduced inequalities (SDG 10), sustainable communities (SDG 11), and partnerships to achieve goals (SDG 17).

In line with the theme “Malaysia to the World Stage, the World Gives Back to Sabah,” NeuroHope 2026 aims to connect international prestige with community-level efforts.

The organisers invite the public to attend and also welcome media representatives to cover the event.
