KENINGAU: Aug 17, 2026 — A scrub fire covering approximately five acres broke out in Kampung Kumawanon, Bingkor, Keningau at 6.50pm yesterday, according to the Keningau Fire and Rescue Station (BBP).
A team from the Keningau BBP, led by PBK II Azuwin Hamirin, was deployed to the location after receiving an emergency call regarding the incident. They arrived at the scene at 7.10pm, after which personnel commenced firefighting operations.
The operation faced challenges due to the absence of access routes for fire engines to enter the affected area, forcing personnel to manually control the spread of the fire using fire beaters.
The operation involved eight personnel with the assistance of one FRT and one EMRS unit.
The Keningau BBP advised the public to cease open burning activities to prevent fires from spreading to areas that are difficult to access.
