KUNAK: August, 12 2026 – A giant crocodile measuring 12 feet 10 inches was shot dead by the Royal Malaysia Police (PDRM) with the assistance of the Malaysia Civil Defence Force (APM) Kunak along the shoreline of Kampung Hampilan Pangi, Kunak, today.

The action was taken during a monitoring operation following reports that a crocodile trap set up by the Wildlife Department (JHL) in the Darvel Lagoon area had been consumed by the reptile.
The carcass was later handed over to the Tawau District Wildlife Department for further action and procedures.
APM Kunak also advised residents along the Kunak coastal areas to remain vigilant and cautious of the presence of dangerous wild animals.
Any sightings of wildlife that may pose a threat to safety should be reported immediately to the authorities.
