INDONESIA: Aug 11, 2026 – The Mount Bromo tourist area in the Bromo Tengger Semeru National Park (TNBTS), Indonesia, has been closed to visitors since Aug 8 following a forest fire that has been spreading in the Bromo Caldera area, in order to allow firefighting operations to be carried out effectively while ensuring visitor safety.
The closure involves all entry points to the Bromo tourist area, including Cemoro Lawang in Probolinggo Regency, Wonokitri in Pasuruan Regency, Jemplang and Coban Trisula in Malang Regency, and Senduro in Lumajang Regency.
According to a statement from BBTNBTS, the closure took effect at 10pm Western Indonesia Time until further notice.
The measure was taken to provide room for firefighting efforts, while also taking into account the safety and comfort of visitors in the area.
For visitors who had made online bookings during the closure period, the management has provided options to reschedule visits or obtain refunds, subject to the procedures set out through the TNBTS online booking application.
Meanwhile, the public, visitors and tourism service operators have been urged not to carry out any recreational activities within the TNBTS area throughout the closure period.
They have also been advised to exercise caution when using fire to help prevent fire risks and safeguard the national park area.
