GLASGOW: August 2, 2026 – Amir Daniel Abdul Majeed made history on Saturday by securing Malaysia’s first-ever gold medal in judo at the Glasgow 2026 Commonwealth Games.
His victory in the men’s 81kg category on Friday added an eighth gold to the national contingent’s medal haul.
Malaysia has now surpassed its initial target of five gold medals for the Games.
As of day 11, Malaysia has collected 14 medals in total – eight gold, three silver and three bronze – placing them 10th in the overall standings.
The country’s previous gold medals were contributed by Datuk Azizulhasni Awang (men’s keirin), Mohamad Syahmi Nor Ghazali (men’s 94kg weightlifting), Datuk Abdul Latif Romly (men’s T20 long jump), Muhammad Hafizuddin Roslin (men’s 88kg weightlifting), Muhamad Aznil Bidin (men’s 65kg weightlifting), Muhammad Erry Hidayat (men’s 79kg weightlifting) and Mohamad Aniq Kasdan (men’s 60kg weightlifting).
