PENAMPANG: 19 June 2026 – The 2nd International Cultural Dance Festival and Miss International Ethnic Pageant 2026 has successfully brought together participants and delegates from 11 countries to strengthen cultural exchange and international relations.
The opening ceremony, held at the Penampang Cultural Centre this evening, was officiated by Dr Andi Mid Shamzureezal, representing Sabah’s Minister of Tourism, Culture and Environment, Datuk Jafri Arifin.

The participating countries included Georgia, Korea, Poland, China, Indonesia, Sri Lanka, Peru, Bolivia, Chile, Colombia and Malaysia as the host nation.
In his address, Datuk Jafry said the festival provides a platform for participants from various ethnic backgrounds to showcase their cultural heritage, artistic talents and unique identities.

“More importantly, it fosters mutual respect, strengthens community ties and enhances understanding between communities across the globe. Cultural exchange helps us appreciate our differences while sharing common values,” he said.
According to him, culture is not merely about traditions, costumes, music or dance, but rather serves as the foundation of any community and a bridge that connects nations.
“In an increasingly interconnected world, cultural diplomacy plays a vital role in building trust and strengthening international relations,” he said.

Sabah, with its diversity of more than 30 ethnic groups living harmoniously, takes pride in hosting the festival.
“As the gateway to Borneo, Sabah is a place where heritage and modernity thrive side by side. International events such as this help preserve culture and reinforce Sabah’s position as a leading cultural tourism destination,” he said.

He affirmed that Sabah’s Ministry of Tourism, Culture and Environment would continue to support initiatives that promote cultural appreciation, empower young people and open up opportunities for international collaboration.
Jafry extended his best wishes to all participants of the Miss International Ethnic Pageant 2026 and expressed appreciation for the cultural groups that continue to preserve their heritage for future generations.
