Woman with fake identity card jailed four months

KOTA KINABALU: Sept 19, 2026 – A 55-year-old woman was detained by Sabah National Registration Department (JPN) enforcement officers on Sept 10 when she came to replace her identity card at the Identity Card Division, Sabah JPN.

The accused, Jamilah Akrim, was arrested at about 11.30am before being brought to the Kota Kinabalu Magistrate’s Court on Sept 17.

The accused pleaded guilty before Magistrate Dzul Elmy Yunus and was sentenced to four months’ jail.

Jamilah was found to have committed the offence of possessing a fake identity card and was charged under Regulation 25(1)(e), National Registration Regulations 1990.

After serving her sentence, the accused will be referred to the Malaysian Immigration Department for further action.

Sabah JPN said it is always committed to enforcing laws related to identification documents to ensure the integrity of the national registration system continues to be preserved as well as preventing misuse of identification documents.
