KOTA KINABALU: June 23, 2026 – Universiti Malaysia Sabah (UMS) emerged as the overall champion of the 2026 Sabah Higher Education Institution Sports Championship (SUIPTS) after amassing 29 gold, 13 silver and five bronze medals.
The closing ceremony was officiated by Dr Hanafiah Ayub, Deputy Secretary of the Strategic Planning Division at the Ministry of Higher Education, at the UMS Postgraduate Auditorium on Sunday.
In his speech, Hanafiah said SUIPTS serves not merely as a sporting competition platform but as an important medium for fostering discipline, integrity, teamwork and identity among students.

He noted that the active participation and sportsmanship displayed by all 23 participating higher education institutions reflected a continuing commitment to strengthening sports development and human capital.
He also expressed hope that the experience gained throughout SUIPTS 2026 would serve as a catalyst for students to continue achieving excellence at higher levels, whether in academics or sports.

In the final standings, Universiti Teknologi MARA Cawangan Sabah (UiTMCS) finished as runner-up with five gold, six silver and 10 bronze medals, while third place went to UMS Kampus Antarabangsa Labuan (UMSKAL), which secured four gold, two silver and five bronze medals.
Also present at the ceremony was UMS Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Student Affairs and Alumni), Professor Dr Raman Noordin.
