TENOM: Sept 21, 2026 — The Mooncake Festival and Lantern Festival celebration in Tenom reflects the uniqueness and diversity of the cultures and religions of the people in the district.
Minister of Agriculture, Fisheries and Food Industry Datuk Jamawi Jaafar said the celebration, organised by the Federation of Chinese Community Associations of Tenom District, drew many youths, school students, parents and traders.
He, who is also Melalap assemblyman, said the participation of people of various religions, including Muslims, in the lantern procession and related events showed Tenom’s uniqueness.
“This is the advantage and uniqueness in Tenom, where we celebrate the diversity of festivities regardless of religion. We celebrate together.
“Usually they also celebrate Hari Raya together, and they also join Christmas events. This is the cultural and religious diversity in Tenom that we must nurture and encourage,” he told reporters after officiating the festival last Saturday.
Jamawi expressed gratitude that the culture was increasingly flourishing and growing in Tenom.
