SIPITANG: 13 June 2026 – The era of more stable and resilient electricity supply in Sabah has moved a step closer after the Sabah Southern MADANI Link project was launched on Saturday, opening a new chapter in efforts to reduce the risk of power disruptions affecting people, businesses and the industrial sector in the state.

The project is expected to strengthen Sabah’s electricity transmission system through a more robust grid, while improving the reliability of power supply to meet the needs of rapidly growing development.

Chief Minister Datuk Seri Panglima Hajiji Noor said the Southern MADANI Link was among the most important energy infrastructure projects for Sabah, as it not only improves supply stability but also serves as a foundation for the state’s future economic growth.

He said a stronger energy system was essential to support various strategic sectors, including manufacturing, oil and gas, downstream processing, tourism, modern agriculture, and the development of data centres and high-tech industries, which are expanding in Sabah.

The project is expected to bring direct benefits to the public, as the risk of power disruptions can be reduced, ensuring the smooth running of daily activities, business operations and the delivery of essential services across the state.

“Stable electricity supply is not just a development requirement, but the basis for the well-being of the people and the overall progress of Sabah,” he said.

The project will strengthen Sabah’s ability to attract more domestic and foreign investment, especially in strategic industrial areas such as the Sipitang Oil and Gas Industrial Park (SOGIP), the Kota Kinabalu Industrial Park (KKIP) and the Palm Oil Industrial Cluster (POIC) in Lahad Datu, all of which require stable and adequate power supply.

Hajiji said the development of the energy sector is now among the state government’s priorities, because reliable electricity supply is a key pillar of economic progress and public welfare.

He also stressed that Sabah has great potential to emerge as a green energy hub in Borneo, thanks to its abundant hydro, solar and biomass resources, with the Southern MADANI Link set to play an important role in integrating more renewable energy sources into the state’s grid system in the future.
