KOTA KINABALU: Aug 22, 2026 — Sabah rail commuters are set to enjoy greater accessibility with six new stops along the Kinarut Station to Sembulan Station route, expected to begin operations this October.

Deputy Chief Minister III Datuk Ewon Benedick said the new stops would allow users to access rail services closer to their homes, reducing their reliance on main stations to travel into the city centre.

“The implementation of this commuter service is a crucial step in making rail services more accessible, practical, and closer to the people,” he said after officiating the 130th Railway Day programme at Tanjung Aru Station today.

He noted that the railway service should not only be remembered as part of Sabah’s development history since 1896 but must continue playing a vital role in the public transport system.

The commuter service aligns with the State Government’s aspiration to provide an integrated, efficient, and people-friendly public transport system.

The Ministry of Industrial Development and Entrepreneurship (MINDET), which oversees the transport sector, will continue to prioritise efforts to strengthen Sabah’s public transport network, he added.
