KOTA KINABALU: July 12, 2026 – The Ministry of Industrial Development, Entrepreneurship and Transport (MINDET) will develop a 2026-2030 roadmap to strengthen Sabah’s downstream oil and gas industry, as part of efforts to accelerate sector development and enhance the state’s economic value.
Deputy Chief Minister III and Minister of Industrial Development, Entrepreneurship and Transport, Datuk Ewon Benedick, said the development of the roadmap is among the key resolutions agreed upon during last month’s Sabah Oil and Gas Services and Equipment (SOGSE) conference.
He was responding to a supplementary question from Datuk Seri Mohd Shafie Apdal (Senallang) during today’s sitting of the Sabah State Legislative Assembly.
According to him, the roadmap will serve as a guide for the development of Sabah’s oil and gas industry over the next five years, with a focus on expanding downstream activities in the state.
“I will present this roadmap proposal to the State Cabinet, and hopefully, during the next sitting of the Legislative Assembly, after obtaining the Cabinet’s mandate, I will return to this House to update members,” he said.
Datuk Ewon said the state government wants to ensure that the development of the oil and gas industry is not confined to upstream activities, but instead generates greater added value through downstream industrial growth that can create investment opportunities, jobs and sustainable economic development in Sabah.
