KUCHING: Sept 17, 2026 – Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim has announced a one-off RM500 Special Flight Ticket Purchase Assistance for every eligible new student of public higher learning institutions (IPTA) for the September and October intake this year.
The assistance covers students of public universities, polytechnics and community colleges who require domestic flights between Peninsular Malaysia, Sabah, Sarawak and the Federal Territory of Labuan.
The initiative is expected to benefit 7,095 students and ease travel costs as they begin their studies.
The RM500 will be channelled directly into the bank accounts of eligible students, enabling families to cover flight ticket costs without a burdensome claims process. Implementation details will be announced by the Ministry of Transport (MOT) soon.
The initiative strengthens the FLYsiswa agenda and helps families cope with the cost of living, particularly parents preparing additional expenses when their children pursue studies across regions.
“Distance and travel costs should not be a barrier for Malaysian children to pursue knowledge and build their future,” he said at the Malaysia Day celebration in Kuching, Sarawak, yesterday.
According to him, the RM500 may not cover the full cost of travel, but it is the government’s effort to ease the burden on families when their children begin their studies.
