PENAMPANG: July 30 2026 – Police in Sabah are investigating the discovery of a baby’s body, believed to have been stillborn, near a house in Penampang district.
Penampang District Police Chief Superintendent Sammy Newton said officers from the district police headquarters were deployed to the scene in Kampung Boliga Kolopis after receiving a report at about 11:52 am on Tuesday.
“A preliminary investigation found the body near the complainant’s house,” he said in a media statement.
He added that the Sabah contingent’s forensic unit and the Royal Malaysia Police’s K-9 unit had also been dispatched to assist with the investigation and examination of the scene.
The body has been sent to the forensic department at Queen Elizabeth Hospital in Kota Kinabalu for a post-mortem examination.
The case is being investigated under Section 318 of the Penal Code for concealing the birth of a child by disposing of a body, which carries a jail term of up to two years, a fine, or both, upon conviction.
Mr Newton said police were now tracking down those responsible and conducting further inquiries to determine the cause of the incident.
Members of the public with information were urged to come forward and assist the investigation by contacting investigating officer Inspector Mohamad Anis Abdullah at 013-6365734, or by visiting the nearest police station.
He also advised the public not to speculate or share unverified information about the case to avoid jeopardising the police investigation.
