BEAUFORT: Oct 26, 2026 – Sabah’s border security is a concern for Sabahans and cannot be ignored. Border defence, the entry of illegal immigrants and enforcement control have long worried residents. The Federal Government must provide explanations and concrete action, said STAR Beaufort Parliamentary Coordinator Jin Tze Vun.
He said the article “Malaysia’s Front Door for Sale?” by Datuk Seri Panglima Teo Chee Kang in The Borneo Post raised issues of border control, monitoring of law enforcement and systemic weaknesses that require serious attention.
Vun said the more important matter is ensuring a complete border control mechanism, effective enforcement and explanations for the people’s reasonable doubts, and adjudicating individual cases fairly according to the law.
“Sabah is not a peripheral area of national security. The security and rights of Sabahans cannot be marginalised,” he said.
He said Sabah has a long coastline. Border defence, the entry of illegal immigrants and enforcement control have long been a concern of the people.
The people have the right to demand that the government reassess the border security mechanism, ensure enforcement is fully monitored and that weaknesses are detected, investigated and corrected in a timely manner.
The Federal Government should not provide feedback only after an issue gains attention. It must proactively reassess existing mechanisms and prove that border defence works through concrete action.
Vun stressed that defending national sovereignty and border security is the responsibility of the Federal Government. Sabahans should not have to bear the consequences only after problems arise.
He supports a transparent and thorough investigation according to the law into reasonable doubts regarding border control. Corruption, abuse of power or the conveyance of interests must be handled based on evidence and the law without special treatment.
Allegations against individuals should be adjudicated fairly by the courts. The integrity of the judiciary and a thorough investigation of systemic problems are not in conflict. Evidence, the law and transparent accountability are needed to maintain public trust.
Vun hopes the Federal Government will take seriously the concerns of Sabahans, take concrete steps to strengthen enforcement monitoring, close systemic weaknesses, enhance border control capabilities and provide updates within legal bounds.
“Sabahans need visible action, not promises. They need effective mechanisms, not explanations after the fact,” he said.
He said defending Sabah’s rights is a responsibility towards the people, the homeland and future generations. National sovereignty must be respected, border defence protected and the people’s voice given due attention.
“Sabah’s border security cannot be compromised, the rights of Sabahans cannot be ignored and the Federal Government’s responsibility cannot be absent.”
