TENOM: August 8, 2026 – For participants of the agricultural course in Tenom, obtaining myOrganic certification is not merely about recognition, but rather an opportunity to generate higher income through healthy crop yields.
At the same time, 25 B40 families in Kampung Lagud have begun turning their fortunes around after receiving quality breeding cattle.
Agriculture Minister Datuk Jamawi Jaafar said the Organic Farming Technology Transformation Course 2.0 serves as an important platform for participants from Tenom, Keningau, Nabawan and Kudat to learn the standard operating procedures (SOP) required to secure myOrganic certification.
The programme, organised by the Department of Agriculture, not only enhances the skills of farm operators but also enables them to market their produce at premium prices.
“People today are increasingly health-conscious. If more organic farms are developed, consumers will have access to a stable and safe food supply, while operators will enjoy higher returns, even if consumers need to pay slightly more,” he said after officiating the closing ceremony of the course at Dewan SJK (C) Chung Hwa.
Meanwhile, the livestock assistance programme has breathed new life into the B40 group. Two grazing fields in Kampung Lagud and Pamilaan have been rehabilitated with new fencing and grass. A total of 25 cattle were distributed today, with another 45 to follow in September.
Taking heed of past experiences where some recipients sold their cattle within two or three months, Jamawi advised beneficiaries not to be hasty in parting with the assistance.
“Do not sell them. Let them breed up to seven generations. With proper care, the herd size can grow to 10, 20 or even 30 head,” he said, reminding them to leverage this aid for long-term income generation.
He gave his assurance of continued support for recipients. “If there are issues with fencing, grass or the breeding stock, let us know. We will help to the best of our ability,” he said, to ensure that government programmes genuinely uplift the living standards of local communities.
