SEMPORNA: June 23, 2026 – Authorities have seized 6,850 litres of suspected misappropriated subsidised petrol during an enforcement operation in the eastern state of Sabah.

The Ministry of Domestic Trade and Cost of Living (KPDN) said the seizures were made under Operation Tiris 4.0 (Integrated) in the Semporna district and surrounding coastal waters.

According to a ministry statement on Tuesday, the Marine Police handed over two cases following inspections on Monday at an unnumbered house in Kampung Mesra, a stilt village.

In the first case, 4,350 litres of suspected petrol stored in 174 25-litre jerrycans were confiscated. Two grey wooden boats, one Yamaha 200HP outboard engine and two Yamaha 85HP outboard engines were also seized.

The second case involved the seizure of 2,500 litres of suspected petrol stored in 100 jerrycans.

No arrests were made in either case and the items were seized without an owner coming forward.

The ministry said the subsidised goods were valued at approximately RM25,482, while the total estimated value including the boats and engines was RM52,482.

Two investigation papers have been opened under Section 21 of the Supply Control Act 1961.

The KPDN issued a stern warning to individuals and companies to comply with the law, saying strict action would be taken against offenders.

Individuals convicted face a fine of up to RM1 million for a first offence and up to RM3 million for subsequent offences, or a prison term of up to three years, or both.

Companies, meanwhile, face fines of up to RM2 million for a first offence and up to RM5 million for subsequent offences, if found guilty.
