PENAMPANG: Sept 3, 2026 – Police have detained a 41-year-old local man to assist in investigations into the death of a 44-year-old woman, believed to be his girlfriend.
The victim was rushed unconscious to Queen Elizabeth Hospital I in Kota Kinabalu via ambulance on Aug 31 and was pronounced dead later that night.
The arrest was made following swift action by the Penampang District Criminal Investigation Department (CID). The suspect is believed to have been in a relationship with the deceased.
Preliminary investigations suggest the incident stemmed from a misunderstanding between the victim and the man, after which she was allegedly assaulted.
A thorough examination of the crime scene was conducted by the Penampang CID and the D10 Forensic Unit from the Sabah Contingent Police Headquarters. Several items and relevant samples were seized for forensic analysis.
The case is being investigated under Section 302 of the Penal Code for murder. Police have urged the public to refrain from speculating or spreading unverified information as investigations are still ongoing.
