KOTA KINABALU: 1 August 2026 – The Kembara Merdeka Jalur Gemilang (KMJG) 2026 convoy today began its tour across all districts in Sabah until 31 August, reaching out to urban and rural communities to ignite the spirit of patriotism during the National Month, Sabah Day and Flag Flying Campaign 2026 celebrations.
The programme, organised by the Sabah State Information Department (JAPEN), involves the participation of 25 federal and state government agencies, non-governmental organisations (NGOs) and several private sector representatives in an effort to deliver messages of love for the country and state to the people across Sabah.
The convoy flag-off ceremony was officiated by Sabah Chief Minister Datuk Seri Panglima Hajiji Noor at the launch of the National Month, Sabah Day and Flag Flying Campaign 2026 at the Kinabalu Tower grounds this morning.
The convoy then moved around Kota Kinabalu city centre towards several checkpoints including the Sabah International Convention Centre (SICC), Manggatal Community Hall and Foh Sang.
JAPEN director Jainisah Mohd Noor said KMJG continues to serve as a platform to ignite the spirit of patriotism through various activities and programmes throughout the tour.
“KMJG, as in previous years, will tour every district until 31 August to ignite the spirit of patriotism among the community, while carrying the message of love for the country and state through various approaches,” she told the media after appearing as a guest on the Santai Jak Bah segment on TV Sabah on Thursday.
She said the participation of private companies from the gig economy sector, such as MAXIM E-hailing this year, demonstrates that the spirit of patriotism can be expressed by all levels of society regardless of their field of work.
“Through their participation, it aligns with this year’s National Day theme ‘Malaysia MADANI: Kesejahteraan Dinikmati’ (Malaysia MADANI: Prosperity Enjoyed).
“This involvement not only enlivens the convoy but also serves as a platform to highlight the role of the gig economy as one of the growing sectors that provides opportunities for the people to generate income flexibly,” she said.
Jainisah expressed hope that the people of Sabah would fly the Jalur Gemilang and Sabah flags at their respective premises throughout the National Month and Sabah Day celebrations as a symbol of patriotic spirit, unity and love for the nation.
