KOTA KINABALU: June 29, 2026 – Sabah Electricity Sdn Bhd will implement scheduled electricity rationing in several areas across the state due to a shortfall in generation capacity within the state grid system.
In a statement, the utility company said the situation was caused by a disruption to an offshore gas platform owned by Petroliam Nasional Berhad (Petronas), which affected gas supply to several Independent Power Producers (IPPs). This has resulted in a reduction in electricity generation capacity, subsequently impacting the stability of Sabah’s grid system.
According to Sabah Electricity, the implementation of scheduled rationing is a system management measure to ensure the stability of the state’s electricity supply can be maintained while restoration of generation capacity is underway.
The company also stated that every effort is being made to minimise the duration of supply disruptions and reduce the impact on consumers.
Members of the public are advised to obtain the latest information on affected areas and current developments via the official Sabah Electricity Careline Facebook page or by calling the Careline hotline at 15444.
Sabah Electricity also apologised for any inconvenience caused to consumers and expressed its appreciation for the public’s patience and cooperation throughout this period.
