KENINGAU: August 21, 2026 – Sparks from an electrical cable that fell onto dry undergrowth sparked a bush fire covering approximately 100 metres by 10 metres along Jalan Kampung Bomboi here last night.
The Keningau Fire and Rescue Station (BBP) control room received an emergency call at 11.16pm before dispatching an operations team of 10 personnel to the location, some 4.2 kilometres from the station.
The team, led by PBK I Danny Boy Cornelio, deployed an FRT unit and EMRS vehicle, arriving at the scene at 11.25pm.
Upon arrival, firefighters found that sparks from the electrical cable had caused the fire to spread to the dry scrub area.
Firefighters laid out a 200-foot forest fire hose line to contain and extinguish the blaze.
The fire was brought under control at 11.48pm, with operations fully concluded at 11.49pm.
Members of the public are advised not to attempt to extinguish fires involving electrical cables that are smoking, severed or emitting sparks, as they risk electrocution.
Instead, the public should stay clear of the area and immediately contact Sabah Electricity Sdn Bhd (SESB) or the emergency hotline at 999.
