BEAUFORT: 9 August 2026 – Senior citizens at the Beaufort Senior Citizens Activity Centre (PAWE) continue to contribute to society and the nation. They took part in a gotong-royong (community clean-up) around the area alongside the Jalur Gemilang Independence Convoy (KMJG), the local community, and various government agencies in conjunction with the National Month celebration.
PAWE Beaufort Chairman, Mat Din Sanggar, said their active participation shows that senior citizens remain capable of staying productive.
“We do not want them to just stay at home. Instead, they should take part in activities that benefit themselves and the community,” he explained.
According to him, the gotong-royong not only beautified the area but also strengthened ties between the senior citizens, government agencies, and the local community.
The agencies involved included TM Sabah, FINAS Sabah, the Malaysian Maritime Enforcement Agency (APMM) Sabah, the Fire and Rescue Department, the Prison Department, the Sabah Rubber Industry Board, and PERKESO (Social Security Organisation).
Mat Din added that the spirit of independence among the senior citizens remains strong despite their advancing age. He hopes more such programmes will be organised to involve this group.
The programme also reflects the government’s commitment to ensuring that all segments of society benefit from social activities and community development.
PAWE Beaufort now has nearly 200 registered members who are active in various religious activities, exercise sessions, cultural events, and Quran classes.
