KUALA LUMPUR: September 19, 2026 – Yang di-Pertuan Agong Sultan Ibrahim has granted a conditional pardon to Datuk Seri Najib Tun Razak, allowing the former prime minister to serve the remainder of his sentence under house arrest until Aug 23, 2028, subject to stipulated conditions.
The decision was made at the 64th meeting of the Pardons Board for the Federal Territories of Kuala Lumpur, Labuan and Putrajaya, which convened at Istana Negara yesterday.
Najib must also pay a RM50 million fine and comply with all conditions set under the pardon.
If any condition is breached, the conditional pardon will be revoked and he must immediately serve the remainder of his prison sentence.
The meeting was also attended by Minister in the Prime Minister’s Department (Federal Territories) Hannah Yeoh and Attorney-General Tan Sri Mohd Dusuki Mokhtar as members of the Pardons Board.
Earlier, the vehicle carrying Hannah was seen entering Istana Negara at about 7.45am, while Mohd Dusuki arrived seven minutes later. Hannah was later seen leaving Istana Negara at about 9.40am after the meeting ended.
Hannah had previously explained that the views she conveyed at the Pardons Board meeting were formulated after reviewing the Attorney-General’s written opinion, in her capacity as a board member and the minister responsible for the Federal Territories. She also stressed that the final decision on pardons rests with the Yang di-Pertuan Agong in accordance with Article 42 of the Federal Constitution.
