Man dies after vehicle veers off road, crashes into tree on Tuaran Bypass

KOTA KINABALU: Oct 4, 2026 — A 44-year-old man died after the Mitsubishi Triton he was driving veered off the road and crashed into a tree on Jalan Tuaran Bypass, near Chan Furniture, at about 12.30am today.

Kota Kinabalu police chief ACP Shahrudin Mat Husain said the victim, who was driving alone, was believed to have been travelling from Tebobon towards Kota Kinabalu city centre when he lost control of the vehicle upon reaching the scene.

The vehicle then veered onto the left road shoulder before crashing into a tree.

As a result of the crash, the victim was trapped in the driver’s seat and was unconscious before being extricated by personnel from the Likas Fire and Rescue Station.

He was pronounced dead at the scene at 1.31am by a medical officer.

The body was sent to the Forensic Department of Queen Elizabeth Hospital I, Kota Kinabalu, for a post-mortem.

The case is being investigated under Section 41(1) of the Road Transport Act 1987.

Those with information on the incident are urged to contact the investigating officer, Inspector Brymenedren Godon, at 010-7768802 or any nearby police station.

Kota Kinabalu District Police also advised all road users to always drive carefully and prudently and to comply with traffic rules for their own safety and that of other road users.
