TENOM: Oct 1, 2026 – The Kemabong Sub-District Office has officially taken over the Murut Longhouse and Kemabong Town Lansaran facility, which provides space for residents to carry out community and cultural activities.
According to a statement by the Implementation Coordination Unit, Sabah State Prime Minister’s Department (ICU JPM Sabah), the project, implemented in collaboration with the Sabah State Government, has been completed and was officially handed over yesterday.
To support the use of the facility, monitoring will continue throughout the 12-month Defects Liability Period (DLP) to ensure any defects identified can be rectified immediately, safeguarding users’ comfort and safety.
In line with the Malaysia MADANI aspiration, the project aims to preserve the heritage of the Murut community and support the economic development of rural communities.
The second phase of the project involves adding seminar rooms, a recording room, a handicraft room and kiosks to strengthen the facility’s function as a local community activity centre.
With the facility, local artists and handicraft entrepreneurs now have a more conducive space to produce creative work, share skills and promote their crafts to visitors, thereby creating income-generating opportunities through the expansion of culture-based tourism activities.
Residents’ involvement in enlivening and maintaining the facility is important so that the longhouse continues to be a community gathering centre and a place for the younger generation to learn about Murut heritage.
