TENGGARONG, August 13, 2026 – A 24-year-old man has been arrested for allegedly setting fire to a meeting room at the Diskominfo (Communications and Informatics Office) in Kutai Kartanegara (Kukar), East Kalimantan, last Tuesday.
The suspect, identified as MFA, is believed to have been dissatisfied after his photograph was recorded without his knowledge and later shared in a WhatsApp group, where it was turned into stickers for mockery.
Kukar Police Criminal Investigation Unit Chief, AKP Elnath Splendidta Wafiq Gemilang, said the issue is believed to be among the motives behind the incident.
MFA is believed to have purchased petrol, poured it at the door of the third-floor meeting room, and set it alight using a lighter at around 7.20 am.
The fire was successfully extinguished at approximately 8.30 am, and no casualties were reported.
The meeting room sustained serious damage.
MFA is currently in police custody for further investigation, while authorities continue to probe the full motive and chronology of the incident.
